Stover Resources

The single largest source of low cost cellulose in this country is corn stover. More...

Those lonely cornstalks—called corn stover—left behind in the fields after the grain harvest is complete could someday become valuable raw material. More...

Plans to build a new cellulosic ethanol plant in central Nebraska have been put on hold. The plant was to have used corn stover and soybean stubble as the feedstock, but developers say they have found a better use for the product. More...

Next Step enters into a 7-year contract with farmers for stover and/or stubble:

  • Next Step shreds, bales, and transports your stover at no charge
  • Next Step leaves the appropriate amount of stover in your fields
  • Next Step pays you $20 per dry ton of stover or, about $60 per acre
  • Farmers contract with Next Step to supply a set amount of tons per year (the tons can come from any fields)
  • 7-year contract with an annual increase based on the consumer price index + a market price assurance clause (meaning if we ever pay more to any farmers in your area, you get the market price)

The 7-year contract allows Next Step to raise and commit the capital needed to build a PowerPellet plant in your community.

  • Next Step builds a local PowerPellet plant when at least 150,000 tons (or about 50,000 acres) of corn stover are under contract
  • Next Step PowerPellet plant will pay out ~$3,000,000 annually to local farmers for stover; plus new jobs, benefits, and spending in your local community
